Food Security

Two children help with the Kenyan Food Security Program 2002 Building food security among families and communities is a key factor in proper nutrition and children's health.  CCF's food security program targets populations with malnourished children and those at risk of being malnourished.  These programs closely fit into the traditional food security components of availability, access and utilization.

Addressing Key Factors

  • Availability - CCF works to ensure there are sufficient quantities of appropriate, necessary types of food available to the families.
  • Access - Many families have inadequate incomes or resources to purchase or barter for the foods needed to maintain good nutrition.
  • Utilization - CCF provides training to ensure that food is properly used to provide energy and essential nutrients.  Issues of food storage and processing techniques, potable water, adequate sanitation and basic principles of nutrition are very important.

People around the world are working to find appropriate, permanent means to create food security.  CCF's programs empower communities through training in agriculture and food security.  Such programs positively impact families and their children and offer long-term, sustainable answers to food security.
