Lutherans have advocated for debt cancellation since 1997. This paper explains how the debts have accumulated over the last several decades. It seeks to inform readers that “debt cancellation has saved lives and reduced poverty because it frees up critical financial resources that governments commit to investing in the well-being of their people.” Christians also get an explanation of how their faith informs them about advocacy around debt cancellation issues.
